SAHMs: How do you do it? I love my dcs, but I feel like I just can't take it any more. I spend pretty much the entire day cleaning up toys, food, dishes, preparing food for them that they barely touch, getting no cooperation from them (younger is only 18 mos, so I realize I can't expect much, but she is so strong that I literally cannot change her diaper or clothes if she doesn't want to). I feel like I have to get a job to keep my sanity. And yes, I do have babysitters occasionally, but I don't get enough exercise or sleep (one or both dcs wake me up every single night). I hear you. This gig would be great if not for the darn kids. [ Reply | More ]

my dad was in the Marines and i come from a big family. it's all about structure and responsibility. you have to set guidelines and a schedule and keep to it. [ Reply | More ]

I am also a sahm and I know exactly how you feel. love my kids but sometimes it's just too much. I really want to get a job but don't know where to even begin since I've been out of work for almost 2 years now...it's overwhelming. [ Reply | More ]

I know what you mean and I completely respect and understand the response above about structure but I find that to be very challenging...I'm not a marine. I think in some ways the grass is always greener when you are a mom--there are just sacrifices you make whether you SAH, WOH, or even WAH. You end up with so much on your plate. I just keep reminding myself that this time is going to go so fast and I try to appreciate it now since they will be going off to school before we know it. [ Reply | More ]

Would it be possible to get a sitter for at least one day a week? [ Reply | More ]

sounds like you've got your head screwed on pretty well. I don't think I could have done it when mine were toddlers. I started WAH (and only part time) a couple of years ago, and I mostly love it, but my kids are school age, which obv makes it much easier. I'm still adjusting to summer mode (kids home most of the summer, also caring for my mom, who lives w/ us), so I'm overwhelmed just now. I have learned the hard way that I have to make myself a priority, even if only to look after my physical health. Also once those kids are in bed at night, I am DONE with everything: no chores, no work, no volunteering. It's my time, even if that's just an hour or 2. [ Reply | More ]
