I'm on the other side, too, and I think it's going to be ugly numbers game again...3100 kids took the ERB for 2400 spots last year, and I'm not convinced it's going to be any better this year. I'm going to try and be helpful, too. [ Reply | More ]

those aren't such bad odds [ Reply | More ]

they are if you consider that most people want a small fraction of those 2400 spots because they're at the known schools, and only a few years ago, schools like BWL and Trevor were calling PSDs looking for applicants, and relatively few kids were SO. [ Reply | More ]

Eh that is not really true. getting into private schools has always been surrounded by panic and stress and insanity. For decades and decades. The BWL calling for dcs isn't really the case that was just nasty mommies spreading rumors about a school with a bad reputation [ Reply | More ]

Panic and stress was always there but the numbers speak for themselves. Look at the numbers. It's really diff now than 30 yrs ago. [ Reply | More ]

Really isn't, but everyone wants to believe it is. There would not be panic and stress if people just walked into schools 40 years ago. More people now but more schools period. [ Reply | More ]

there aren't more schools (and those that have opened get trashed here). [ Reply | More ]

yes there are. new schools opening, about 7 of them, have more than made up for increase in dcs PLUS the existing schools with exception of TT expanded class size considerably to accomodate more dcs. [ Reply | More ]

what 7 new schools? I know of two--Claremont and BIS, plus Mandell's expansion. talk to the Parent's League--the publics or privates haven't added nearly enough seats to accommodate dc's. [ Reply | More ]

NP: why should any of the private schools expand to make room for your average dc? [ Reply | More ]

BS--I was told this by my PSD, and heard it from friends whose PSDs said the same. It's not "nasty mommy" rumors, and all you have to do is read the papers to learn the numbers of kids in the city now, and the lack of both private and public school spots. Get your head out from under that rock... [ Reply | More ]

Look above. There are 7 more schools and all existing school with the exception of 4 have expanded all their class size to deal with more dcs. Schools want to make a profit and they want to capitalize on more people in the city. Don't talk to me about your idiotic PSD who tells you what she wants you to believe so you don't bang on her door when your dc doesn't get in anywhere. She doesn't want you to blame her, she wants you to blame numbers and the system. get your newbie head out from under that rock, you were not here over the last 40 years to see how things have - not - changed. Above where? You haven't listed 7 schools (I listed three), and the rest of the schools haven't expanded class sizes enough--again, talk to the Parent's League and read the papers. And btw, my dc wasn't SO, and I grew up here. Sounds to me like you forgot to take your meds this a.m. Your arguments run counter to conventional wisdom, so see ya...done wasting my time with you. Yes they have. I've heard about the obsessing that used to happen - it was about WHICH school. Now, it's any any any school that people are begging for. That's totally new. [ Reply | More ]

not at all. dcs getting into more than one or two schools even 40 years ago was rare. So tired of telling people who were not even IN nyc what it was really like. I don't pretend to have qualified opinions on the town you grew up in or the school you went to. God people, just stop. [ Reply | More ]

You're clueless and ill-informed, but I guess that's to be expected here. [ Reply | More ]
