I just came from a childhood friend's husband's funeral, 36 years old, died a vrey painful death from bone cancer. We had been best friend's our whole lives and kind of became estranged after hre marriage and child...we got together again about two years before her DH was diagnosed with cancer, in the meantime, I had another DBm to whom she has never met. We always had an off again/on again friendship but when we were close, we were very close. I feel terribly guilty that I hadn't been there more for her while she went through hard times with her DH's illness and at Mass they actually thanked another friend of hers for standing by her side, etc. It was like a stab in my heart...what can I do now to be there??? 1. don't make it about you; 2. contact her and ask how you can help. and do that agian in a few weeks when most people will have stopped asking her. [ Reply | More ]

remember that they weren't trying to insult you by thanking the other person - they were just thanking them. [ Reply | More ]
