B/c I think there was a misake somewhere in the testing. DC got 99/99/99 ERBs and 99 SB. And 27% on Olsat!! [ Reply | More ]

your dc must have not finished the test. [ Reply | More ]

So, what will I learn from the test and what is my recourse? [ Reply | More ]

np, nothing. If your dc didn't finish the test, there is no recourse. [ Reply | More ]

or: No idea. Luckily I did not have to deal with this situation. If I had, I would do the same as you. [ Reply | More ]

You know that the OLSAT is an odd test and many many very smart dc (especially the creative ones) did not do nearly as well as expected. I wouldn't except much of the DOE, but every now and then you get some one who will surprise you. [ Reply | More ]

did you file a request with the DOE to have a look at your DC's test? I did the same but have never gotten a word back from them. [ Reply | More ]

Yes. I also called pretty much every day to make sure I would not be ignored. Why did you call? [ Reply | More ]

DS bombed (meaning 0 points) the shapes subtest on the BRSA while getting extremely high scores on the rest of the BRSA and the OLSAT. [ Reply | More ]

So what do you expect looking at the test would change? [ Reply | More ]

not sure. I just want to make sure it was not a grading mistake. It does look weird since he's done so well on all other aspects of the test. Not even trying it seems to be out of the ordinary for him. Again, we'll see. [ Reply | More ]

^^^^ btw if it was indeed a technical error I would be pissed because he would have gotten a 99 instead of the 98 he was still being able to get and he would have gotten a better chance on Anderson and NEST. [ Reply | More ]

a 98 did not get you into any citywides this year. I think the poster has the right to quibble. [ Reply | More ]

Even if the child had scores a 99, 99's didn't get into citywides. [ Reply | More ]

NP: There were 447 99s and only 225 citywide seats. So a 99 didn't necessarily get you there either. [ Reply | More ]

but a 99er would have had a much better chance than a 98er. What's so hard to understand here? [ Reply | More ]

No interest anymore. It will have been over 2 months since we got the scores. A lot has happened. We're happy with the school for next year. Doubt we'd even ask to have it rescored despite a glaringly off score in one area. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think it's that odd. DS had all 97-99s and one 35. It happens. [ Reply | More ]

It will just be for you to verify that there was not a scoring error. So, you will just verify that the number of questions answered correctly matches the number listed as correct. [ Reply | More ]

It seems like bull if you can't see questions -- don't we teach our kids to go over corrected tests to learn what you don't know. [ Reply | More ]

you must be kidding? this test is not one that the dc even knew was a test, and the content is used to place kids, not something they must learn as part of their education. doe must safeguard these tests so that they don't get out. its about safeguarding the test, and you really should be ok with that. Someone on here last wk appealed right away b/c her daughter had to bubble & it slowed her down -- they let her retest. I heard this a.m. some schools let the kid's own teachers administer it. Sounds like a lot of inconsistency. [ Reply | More ]

Well, actually it was me who posted that and it was true. SHe also did come down with a fever that night, which may have contributed, but we appealed the next day, they looked into it (talked to her tester and such) and agreed with our appeal. [ Reply | More ]

so she was sick. ok. I buy that. but getting an appeal because the kid couldn't keep up with the test would be ridiculous. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.24.08, 01:42 PM Flag

No, it wasn't keep up with the test. It was that she was told she had to fill in all her own bubbles whereas all the other kids just had to point. She's a bubble perfectionist and it took her forever and wiped her out. I know it sounds absurd but it's true. We appealed based on that and not the sickness. [ Reply | More ]

But that is not true - my dd was told she had to bubble and I as far as I know so were others. [ Reply | More ]

That is different. You had to appeal within 3 days of taking the test, not after you saw the score and did not like it. [ Reply | More ]

For the person whose dc skipped shapes - if there is a testing error, push HARD for a place at a citywide. They will have spaces, esp. at NEST, and squeaky wheel gets the prize [ Reply | More ]

The Bracken test is generally used to identify verbally based learning disabilities. That your obviously bright daughter 'flunked" a section of it is pretty wierd. [ Reply | More ]
