PS 84 has a dual language Spanish program and now they're starting up French for next Fall. Anyone know the process for approaching school about starting dual language program? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

If you live out of the zone you can participate in the district 3 lottery to get in, but you have to be accepted to the school before you can apply for the DL program. [ Reply | More ]

Not necessarily. If your dc is French speaker they will likely take you, as they are looking for those. The program needs a balance to be successful. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Sorry for the confusion, what I meant was, is there a process for starting up a program like that in your own school? [ Reply | More ]

The best way to start a dual-language program is to already have 8-10 native language and 8-10 non-native speakers interested in the program in the school. The principle needs to support it (I strongly suggest the support from the rest of the school) and then the DOE will need to approve it. [ Reply | More ]
