No if you prefer the feeling to the other schools and academics are not high on your list why can't you go where you want? [ Reply | More ]

Are their academics really that much worse than the other girls schools? [ Reply | More ]

Using 'worse' or 'bad' to describe any of these schools (and I have experience in some of them) is inaccurate. You will get a much better education at marymount than your average public suburban school. Will your dc be burning up the academic world? no, but is that really that important to you [ Reply | More ]

Quite a few MM girls do better in college admissions than Brearley girls, though overall B admissions are stronger. It's not like the academics are not there at MM. [ Reply | More ]

Some MM girls will do well in a school like MM but receiving an A at MM and an A at Brearley is a very different thing [ Reply | More ]

I think choosing a school is choosing an environment that is going to best bring out your dc's strengths and support their weaknesses - and that means not just academically, but socially, artistically, athletically, etc. Sometimes, even a really smart child does better in a more nurturing versus a very competetive environment - some kids do better being "the best" in the class at something, rather than by competition. All these NYC privates give an excellent education and all have some students that excel academically and go on to top schools. [ Reply | More ]

Dd is friend with a dd that goes there. Friend used to be very shy but the school seems to be fostering her confidence and she is really starting to come into her own. [ Reply | More ]

We also loved it. And don't listen to these people who say the academics are sub-par. It's a great school. It probably leans a little more traditional than some of the other girls schools, but it also has a warm, nurturing environment. Go with your gut and please don't get hung up on all that "TT" nonsense. I promise you, MM has its pick of high-scoring kids these days and great teachers to educate them. [ Reply | More ]

Marymount is a great school and know several families there. They love it and feel it is a warm happy place. From a Brearley Mom. [ Reply | More ]
