Swingtown is arguably the stupidest, most offensive television show I have ever seen. And on top of that - they have a teenage girl on the show is who is obviously anorexic, and can't act. They have all the fodder for an excellent storyline, and COMPLETELY screw it up. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I'm glad it's falling on its face. I have a problem with the glorification of the premise to begin with. [ Reply | More ]

np: But it's just a TV show. For adults. I'm much more worried about what's on Disney - and the teens that they promote there, and the real-life trouble they're getting in. [ Reply | More ]

You'd be amazed how many tween and teen girls watch adult tv shows and always have. That is not a good example to send to kids. Look - couples sleep around on ALL tv shows good or bad... that is not my issue -- it is the over-glorification of the 70's, like they are "talking down" to us about "what it was really like." Yeah, I guess I have to wait until my kids are old enough to see that. [ Reply | More ]

I'm a child of the 70s--I want them to show the aftermath of all that swingin' freedom--miserable divorces, women struggling economically because they had been out of the workforce for years, latchkey kids shuttled all over...not as cool as it seemed. [ Reply | More ]

But won't they? The show just started, it's from the POV of the new couple in town - so it seems glamorous and surreal. I'm sure the ugly side is right around the corner. [ Reply | More ]

Not according to the NYTimes article. It seemed like they were going to show the fun side. That's what I got from what the producer (creator?) said. [ Reply | More ]

I grew up going to a fancy NYC private and I can tell you parents did all kinds of crazy shit and got divorced like they were ordering Chinese food. It was nothing to them. I am sure it is the same way today - 1970's or not (yes that was in the 70s). [ Reply | More ]

Think about it - is the storyline all that different than Gossip Girl? At least Gossip Girl has likeable characters that - even if you don't like some of them - are well-defined and good actors. [ Reply | More ]

np: But that show is being marketed straight to 12yos, which bothers me a lot more. [ Reply | More ]

Doesn't seem glamorous. And I don't think anyone would enter into it so lightly either. I need more color on this couple. [ Reply | More ]
