everybody complains terc math. LL uses terc math, so they should not get so high math score, at least should not higher than anderson. [ Reply | More ]

Well, not everyone complains about TERC. [ Reply | More ]

No, it isn't actually. I suspect you don't even have a child in school yet and are going by what you read on UB or hear other moms say. If that is the case, just wait and see how your child does with TERC. It's actually a good program. It teaches higher concepts. It does need a little drill and kill added in there and District 2 schools (Like LL) realized that and they do add in now as part of policy. [ Reply | More ]

tutors, obviously. everyone has one. same with the downtown schools. TERC schools with parent body that can afford it tutors like nuts and the test scores seem to show that TERC is great. It is not. My 3rd grader has been doing 1st grade level math all year because of TERC -- she is bored out of her mind and now hates math. So much for TERC getting kids to love it. [ Reply | More ]

rumor has it that a lot of Lab parents have their kids tutored in math during 4th grade because of concerns over getting into good middle schools. I don't know if this is true, but since Anderson and Nest both have middle schools, it could be that there's more tutoring at LL for that particular test. [ Reply | More ]

Lots of Nest are not happy with nest middle school and try to go to better middle school. they should care about math, too. [ Reply | More ]

but there is the same level of tutoring at 234, 6 and 199 [ Reply | More ]

it just looks that way. they're scores don't include any gen ed dcs. if you broke out the g&t scores from the other schools, they'd be equivalent. [ Reply | More ]

LL scores include self-contained special ed class, but if you dig down you can see breakouts of the non-special ed LL student scores, as well as the G&T vs gen ed students in other schools. An way you slice it, LL got the top 4th grade scores of any public school in the city. [ Reply | More ]

The main point here is that LL scored very high because they had tutors to compensate for TERC. [ Reply | More ]

Bunk. The children are really smart. They were tested to get in. They have involved middle/upper middle class parents. Most likely, they would get math no matter what program was used [ Reply | More ]

np, heck 116 scores are almost as good and they include general ed. 150 had almost perfect scores one year in the recent past and they are completely general ed [ Reply | More ]

Because it is an excellent school with excellent teachers and a great community. For those who think test scores are so important, the question should instead be why did Anderson and NEST not do better. [ Reply | More ]

Because state tests conform to the same inane constructivist math program that state/federal govts push onto schools with attractive pricing and training. That's why many fine schools/district with traditional math curriculums have had to switch in order to get training/support for their young teaching staff. It's a trickle down. [ Reply | More ]
