we now have a new source of attacks against anderson: new NEST moms trying to make the case that NEST is better than anderson. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I am at neither school, but it seems just a couple of weeks ago that everyone was saying they were lsting anderso first, then nest. a bunch of people attacked anderson for holding up registration and all sorts of things. now all the new nest moms claiming they are so happy with nest because it is more gender balanced and has better math scores than anderson. then someone posts stats that say otherwise. seems to me the new nest moms do not want to be 2nd fiddle, and they are banging their drum here on UB tonight. I have a 3 yo btw. [ Reply | More ]

She's talking about the 4th grade "4" scores in math. NEST had 64% of their kids scoring a "4", as opposed to Anderson & LL's above 90%. [ Reply | More ]

But only for 4th grade "4" scores. Their 3rd & 5th grade "4" scores are great. [ Reply | More ]

Anderson didn't hold up registration. It waited until the day after decisions were due. It followed protocol. [ Reply | More ]

which just makes them look crazy and hyper-competitive and pathetic, but isn't that the profile of the typical nest parent? [ Reply | More ]

NP: I think people are just traumatized from going through this process for a year and are coming to terms with how it all panned out. Its been a long year. Many here got very good public schools and their dcs will all do fine. there are always those who need to start knocking other top places in order to elevate their own placement. truth is, all are good options. GL all! [ Reply | More ]

Kinda tedious all this immature "lets start a NEST vs Anderson fight" BS. I've been a NEST parent for two years and I cant recall anyone ever mentioning Anderson. We're all much too busy worrying about the bread celebration, bringing snack into school, helping out with parent reading, raising money for the new photocopier, trying to mitigate the obligatory crazy person on the PTA, wondering if we really need to miss work to go to three school events this month, .... There's not enough contact between NEST and Anderson for the parents to get competitive. This is made up. [ Reply | More ]

You're correct. I'd love to chat with Anderson parents and find out if we both separately create similar and encounter similar challenges for ourselves but I don't know why either would feel insecure or threatened enough to compete. I wonder if the DoE should look to move to more of a Gifted School rater than Gifted class model? Is it better or worse to have citywid e schools instead of programs? [ Reply | More ]

NEST and Anderson PTA execs worked very cooperatively helping one another through this year. Any animosity is only on UB and probably not from parents at either school. But I don't agree that the DOE should interfere in either school's model or mission. They should not be cookie cutters of one another. Each should have its own methods and practices and culture so parents have a choice that's meaningful rather than just location and size. [ Reply | More ]
