Wow, I guess LL is tops then (since scores include the self-contained special needs class?) [ Reply | More ]

Lower Lab is 94% in 4th grade math scoring 4s if you just count gen ed students. [ Reply | More ]

So LL has the highest 4th grade math scores in the city, even though it uses D2 "terc" that so many hate, and at Nest, which uses Singapore that so many think is so much better, only 64% scored at grade level? Very interesting! [ Reply | More ]

MSC had 27% of 4th graders scoring 4s. So not way better than those listed above. BUT - once again, like 212 below - MSC is NOT a G&T program. Their 3+4 percentage is excellent (90%). [ Reply | More ]

A tiresome observation - whether a school is good is not all about the test scores. On the one hand, UBers are always banging on about how public schools do nothing but teach to the test from 3rd grade to 5th grade, on the other hand they are all besotted with how well particular schools do on these state tests! I agree that the ELA tests are so stupid, that they are not a sign of anything given a certain basic level of literacy, of how well kids take tests or have been prepped. But math is math. Why wouldn't math tests count as a show of ability of math? Other than those kids who freeze or who are very slow by nature? I think math tests count. LL is impressive since it includes the gen ed. No, LL has a small group of Special Ed kids who, if you look at the scores for All Students, are included. But if you scroll down the DOE test pages, you'll come to a section marked General Education Students - that's where the G&T Lower Lab kids' scores are. [ Reply | More ]

Sadly, the scores are important. If you are at K-5 you need great 4th great scores to get into MS of your choice. If you are at Anderson, you need great fifth grade scores to get a shot at Hunter HS. [ Reply | More ]

The question is, did Lower Lab et al MAKE the kids good at the subjects tested, or did they attract a selection of well-prepared, gifted children who would have tested as well no matter what school they went to? [ Reply | More ]

Lab's math scores were better than Anderson and NEST. You can't just point to selection, especially since the Anderson draws citywide and kids were screened with SB of 95. [ Reply | More ]

They actually did very well if you look at 3+4 scores. You have to remember that 212 isn't a gifted program, so you shouldn't be looking for a large number of 4 scorers. [ Reply | More ]
