OK, someone diagnose me. The left side of my face is freaking out. Started with sharp pulsing pain near my temple, which eventually seemed to migrate to my ear, then down my jaw an neck. Now I seem to have conjunctivitis in my left eye, and what I would guess are hives over my left eyebrow. I made an appt with an ENT doc when the pain in my temple went to my ear, figuring it was some kind of sinus thing, but now.... I don't have a regular doc, so if someone in NYC (Manhattan) can recommend a good internist or gen prac who accepts bc/bs, I'd be most grateful! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

The hives and the pink eye I can see, although I have no idea to what, but what about the pain? And this has progressed over several days. Thanks for answering, btw. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. So it sounds sort of major to you too? I never go to the doctor, and I'm no hypochondriac, but this has me a little freaked. [ Reply | More ]

Shingles was actually one of the first things I thought of when I saw the hives (my mom suffered terribly from this). But the hives don't look like the shingles rash. [ Reply | More ]

NP - it sounds like Shingles but I thought it was more on th ebody and trunk - not the face. And poster below - going to ER won't help. [ Reply | More ]

Would it do the hives and the pink eye too? That was my original thought, but.... It almost seems like some autoimmune thing. To complicate matters, I went to the dentist last week (original symptoms could be related to some tooth infection I picked up), and then on Saturday I was in the ER with ds (he's OK), so who knows what else I could have picked up? yikes, there seems to be consensus. As I said, shingles rash looks different to me, so I'm hoping it's not that. What kind of doc do you go to for shingles? I know my mom was going to a neurologist for the nerve involvement. [ Reply | More ]

If it's shingles you need to go to the ER stat. My mom just had shingles in her eye and it's very serious -- you can go blind. You need to get on the anti-viral medicine fastto get it under control. Go to the ER! [ Reply | More ]

, or Tic Douloureux, (also known as prosopalgia) is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, and jaw.[1] It is estimated that 1 in 15,000 people suffer from trigeminal neuralgia, although those numbers may be significantly higher due to frequent misdiagnosis. TN usually develops after the age of 40, although there have been cases with patients being as young as three years of age [2]. The condition can bring about stabbing, mind-numbing, electric shock-like pain from just a light wind or a finger's glance of the cheek. Believed to be among the most severe types of pain known to humanity, the most common forms of TN affect 1 in 15,000 to 20,000, but 1 in 5,000 are thought to suffer from some type of facial pain. OP: I just said the same. My mom's shingles, however, involved that nerve and caused her intense pain. [ Reply | More ]

I was just about to post this. I had this in January and it is exactly like what you described. I was treated by a nuerologist and it went away pretty quickly. When you look it up, it sounds horrible, but it can be less severe. Have you had dental work lately? [ Reply | More ]

NP - dh had shingles (not on his face). At first he had intense pains down his arms - ER doc thought it was a nerve problem. Then the "hives" appeared and then became more opaque. As soon as that happened his reg doc was able to diagnose Shingles in 2 seconds. [ Reply | More ]

Get to Fairway or a good organic food market and buy a jug of Aloe juice(not gel); drink atleast 24 oz a day until your symptoms lessen. GL-I've been there...Aloe juice will help and it's unlikely MD will prescribe it. [ Reply | More ]
