recently hired a young babysitter (19) who wears way too much perfume--so much that my kids have the scent on them after she leaves---what do I say? I don't want to offend her obviously [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

that's what I recomended to OP, sort of. I think it would be more kind to tell a white lie and say you are allergic than to say I think you stink [ Reply | More ]

I think that unless she really is allergic, it's a temporary situation that can be ignored [ Reply | More ]

but strong smells really bother some people. My sis is not allergic but she can't stand the smell either. Should she put up with that in her own house? [ Reply | More ]

no, if it bothers her then she should be honest. One can be honest and kind at the same time [ Reply | More ]

you could. I'm just saying this gives her an easy way to say something to the girl without embarrassing her. White lies like that grease the wheels of social interaction. [ Reply | More ]

a sitter is an employee. You can ask her to wear appropriate clothing or no perfume etc etc. Saying you are allergic is somewhat more kind than a few other options. It allows OP to tell her wishes without embarrasing the sitter [ Reply | More ]
