My parents were just here over the wkend. They are both heavy, but this is the heaviest I've ever seen them. I wish they could eat better and be more active. I've tried to encourage them, but my mom always makes so many excuses about why she has no time to exercise or even go walking. Anyone have any advice as to how I can encourage them to get healthy? I know I can't change them, but I worry about them. Also, for FWIW, I'm an only child (so no sibs to back me up)and my folks live 8hrs away. TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

the truth is that people won't make changes unless they're open to them. you can sit them down, and express concern, and suggest small changes- cut out juices, no sodas, including diet sodas, etc. [ Reply | More ]

also, you can sign them up for a dance class, or something that gets them up and away from the table. any small increase in physical activity is a start. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know if there is anything else you can do. My MIL joined WW and complains to me she can't lose anything WHILE she is eating a donut. People have to want it themselves and take it seriously [ Reply | More ]
