dh is going to likely accept a great job in philly, we've started looking at places on the "main line" area, lived in nyc for 15 years, so freaking out a bit, but i can work from home, our kids are young, we know a few people, feel a pull to the space, but so worried we'll hate it, and miss nyc even though we complain about everything here. anyone btdt? The schools and housing on the main line of Philadelphia are wonderful. Will dh be working downtown or in a suburb? [ Reply | More ]

op: he'll be in center city, but we decided this was our chance to try suburban living. that is how i grew up, so i have some concept of it, but can't get past the fact that eventhough i never thought myself a nyc'r for life, i am freaked that maybe i am. Friends we know who live there say they feel like they have the best of both worlds, the commute nowhere near at westchester to manhattan, but they can come into the city easily, and the schools are excellent without paying crazy prices? very true..and while the world ahs chaged since I grew up in Philadelphia, it is a much less "showy" keep up with the JOnes/latest trends kind of place (versus NY and its suburbs) But everyone will ask you where you went to school....meaning high school! [ Reply | More ]

op: it's so strange to think, can we be happy outside nyc... never thought that would be my concern, but with two kids, school to think about, and maybe this is temporary issue, but we've come to hate all the lugging back and forth to the playground, and the rainy day inside an smal apt, but will philly suburbs feel so far away? You are more likely to enjoy Philadelphia if you actually live in Center City rather than out on the mainline, imo. Fitler Square, Queen Village are great for families and he can walk to the business district from there. There are many urban babies in Philly-we love it here and use our car perhaps once a month. Also: you can get to NYC from Philly! check out Phillyblog for neighborhood chatter. [ Reply | More ]
