DH is about to go away for a 4-day business trip. 2 year old is very attached to him. We were going to make a calendar to explain that he'd be gone for 4 days and mark them off. Is this a good idea? What do people do when they're away on trips to reassure the kids? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Regular calls, map/globe to show where I am, web cam for chatting, and a token gift from the destination. [ Reply | More ]

2 y/o isn't going to understand a calendar. Have DH call once a day, every day. DC is going to be clingy, but will be OK. Don't make a big deal of the trip, esp. if DH is often gone before DC wakes up in the morning or doesn't come home until after bedtime anyway. DC will feel your stress and that will make matters worse. [ Reply | More ]

Hmm, he's actually 2.5 (I'm never sure how to list a kid's age...) and I think he would get it. Also, DH is usually there when DC wakes up and at bedtime -- he does half the care for him, which is part of why I think it'll be unsettling for DS. But point well taken about not putting stress on him! [ Reply | More ]
