My son was invited to a 5th birthday. The host is registered at Toys R Us. What do you think of that? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

that is tacky. I've never heard of such a thing... Although I suppose it keeps from getting doubles on presents. [ Reply | More ]

I hope you're making that up. I think it's insane when people register when they're pregnant. Registering for a 5 yo is beyond tacky. [ Reply | More ]

c'mon now - people want to buy new moms things that the new mom WANTS and NEEDS. and pregnant ladies/new moms don't have the time or energy to be running all over creation to return things. loosen up, lady! [ Reply | More ]

I don't know. It just seems tacky to me. Like, forcing someone to buy you a changing table cover. Most people prefer to buy clothes or toys or something fun, in my experience. I guess if the person is young and doesn't have much money, but I kind-of feel like people should buy their own basic gear and let friends and family buy things that make them happy to give. I think the registry thing has run amok. [ Reply | More ]

i LOVE registries (as a gift-giver). and i'm perfectly happy buying a changing-table cover -- i'd generally try to get a few like-themed items, so if what was left on the registry was changing table covers and the like, i'd make the gift an "essentials" theme, and be pleased that i was giving such a useful gift. it's not about the giver, you know [ Reply | More ]

It costs a lot to fully furnish a baby and for probably 90% of the population, doing so would be a significant burden. Anyway, no one is forcing anyone to buy anything. Most people want to buy what is helpful, but you really can feel free to get whatever you want. I'm curious, do you feel the same way about wedding registries? Most people all ready have what they need in the kitchen already, because so few get married right out of parents house anymore? [ Reply | More ]

i hear what you are saying. i never liked the idea of a registry...i always felt you should take what you get and be thankful. but i was surprised at how many people asked me for a registry...they don't want to spend their money on something that isn't wanted, they don't want to waste time shopping for me (they don't care about me that much!), it's easier for them, etc. [ Reply | More ]

plus, if you don't register, all you will get is clothes size 0-3 months and toys, how much of that do you really need? [ Reply | More ]

gross. they included this on the invites? how did you find out about the registry? (i ask because if it's just a registry they maintain for him all the time for like out of town relatives or something and you just happened to find out about it that might not be so bad -- but i doubt that's the case) [ Reply | More ]

gross. the child shouldn't think about their party in terms of who is going to give him/her what. they should be grateful for everything they get, whether it's a cool toy or a fleece bunny suit. the parent should be will to put in the legwork to do the returns or pack stuff up for charity/local church sale. PUKE, puke, puke. [ Reply | More ]
