Please..any tips on traveling alone with 16mo dd? I bought the travelmate, the contraption that attaches the carseat to my carry on luggage. Besides toys, snacks etc. what else should I be prepared for? I'm a little nervous about going through security, it's hard enough for me alone to take off everything to go through the machines. Any tips on that front? TIA. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

have all your paperwork ready and at hand; a change of clothes in a ziploc bag; I've gone through JF a few times with my toddler and have found the security staff actually was helpful and friendly. There are ususally other families traveling as well, I've asked the person behind me or in front to grab something while I folded the stroller etc. usually people are helpful [ Reply | More ]

Bring way more diapers and food than you think you could possibly use. I've had my flight delayed before and it was a disaster because while I was prepared, I hadn't thought to OVER prepare. And just brace yourself that you'll spend a lot of time walking the aisles at that age and that people will give you dirty looks. Also, consider using an overnight diaper to cut down on diaper changes or maybe pullups so you can do the change standing instead of laying down. It's really hard and disgusting in the plane bathroom to do a change with DB lying on the toilet seat, trying to touch every revolting surface in the bathroom. Also, bring an extra change of clothes for yourself for when DB inevitably dumps something all over you. [ Reply | More ]

how long is the flight? mostly, just leave yourself plenty of time to get to the plane and take your time. wear slip on/off shoes. Do not bring too much, actually -- you don't want to be overloaded. [ Reply | More ]
