I looked up PS116 bec of the mom who was upset about getting G&T there. Insideschools says 5 out of 5 stars. It is one of the best schools in the city, it says. I don't get why the mom is sooo upset. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

The poster mentioned her concerns about it being a K-5 school and about the curriculum. [ Reply | More ]

Unless her kid got into Hunter it's the same curriculum - G&T or Gen Ed. [ Reply | More ]

hunter is not all that different. in fact, no elementary school is all that different. all teach pretty much the same thing. its elementary! [ Reply | More ]

It is, but everyone is 1 or 2 grades accelerated and several kids are 4 or 5 grades advanced (every grade and every class, they said), so they go thru MS curriculum while in Elem school. [ Reply | More ]

and then what? HS in MS, and then what? there is still only so much actual content to be taught. after that its just independent study, which could just be added all the way through. no reason to finish the curriculum in record time, in order to hang out for a couple of years before college. It's not that they're trying to race anyone. You misunderstand. If you did/knew stuff 5 years ago, you don't want to relearn it. You always want to learn new stuff. That's all. [ Reply | More ]

It's not like that at all. Math is the only subject which kids can accelerate that much in. Otherwise, everyone is in the same English, social studies, science, etc etc classes. [ Reply | More ]

They may have the same names, but the content, level of discussion and expectations are widely different between even good schools. [ Reply | More ]

Try a one bedroom, convertable to a two bedroom, in a non-doorman building. You should be able to get the price to $3K/mo. [ Reply | More ]
