Ds turns 3 next week. Completely potty trained for pee -- but refuses to poop anywhere but in his underwear or at night in his pull-up. He basically won't even sit on the potty. Any tips on how to get the other part of potty training done? He pretty much only poops now after he goes to bed or first thing in the a.m. before he's in underwear. TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

been offering him choice of M&Ms or the chance to watch a DVD with a character from his favorite show. he talks about both incessantly and how he's going to get them when he poops, but he won't/isn't able to do it [ Reply | More ]

I just when through this and after going through I wish I had really known that until they are ready you cannot make them ready. Let him poop in a pullup if he's afraid of the toilet. Take the pressure off. We had a terrible withholding period as the poster below mentions can happen. You do not want that to happen. One day my ds just said he was only wearing underpants and using the toilet and he did after that. Just try not to make it a big deal. Poop is a big thing for some of them. [ Reply | More ]

Sit on the toilet every day when he wakes up, after meals, and whenever his "schedule" calls for it. He will get the hang of it. [ Reply | More ]

don't push him or he might start withholding his poop and then having painful bms. then you'll be in a very bad cycle. I was there and it took about a year to correct itself. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. I just posted above. Luckily we didn't have it for a year but it was hell when we were going through it. I posted here everyday so you may remember me from a few weeks ago. Miraculously we are done now with the whole thing and I'm trying to figure out what to do with all the leftover pullups! [ Reply | More ]

start making him help clean up his "accidents." he'll get tired of it and start putting them where he doesn't have to clean them up. [ Reply | More ]

No pull-ups ever; these are just crazy things that drag on the whole delusion that kids don't know what's up. [ Reply | More ]
