Please don't hijack my post. I don't want to debate IQ tests or school admissions. I'm just trying to find out when the pshy community considers IQ testing "concrete" - probably not the best word. But at what age is the genearl conses that you get an accurate pix. Not 2 years old, etc. I think I read 7 or 8, but can't remember. Thanks. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

it really depends in the individual child some show signs of "giftedness" very early others not take longer to gel into it. for instance dd has a friend in her k class that clearly has a very high IQ, reads at about a 4th grade level and exhibits signs of possessing a photographic memory. while some children may test well at yonger ages, by about 8 years old, maturity factors generally no longer play a part in the testing process and testing is consistent year over year (and prepping does very little to change results...except for one or two areas) [ Reply | More ]

Thank you! If you are still here, do you administer IQ tests? [ Reply | More ]

But of course by that age, kids are given achievement tests rather than IQ tests, and you can prep for achievement tests. [ Reply | More ]

What is your question? The OR said that IQ tests are more consistent at age 8. I agree with that. But my comment is that at age 8, kids are given achievement tests instead of IQ tests, and that one can prep for achievement tests. [ Reply | More ]

At age 8, if a parents calls a shrink and says will you give my kid an IQ test, they say yes and give them an IQ test. Why do you think they would refuse and administer an achievement test? [ Reply | More ]

I think a lot of people assume their kids are not gifted bec so many kids in NYC are very advanced and it just seems like that is normal. I was very surprised. Didn't think dc would make the cutoff at Hunter. Everyone I know got 90+ or above 95. And I thought they were all normal. [ Reply | More ]
