My bro is in his late 30s, unemployed, and currently financially supported by my parents (the last job he had was one that I got for him at my company, which he quit. He dropped out of grad school, has had issues with depression). He won't talk to me, for a couple of perceived slights by me and my dh. My mom keeps on bringing these up, telling me that my dh and I should stop "looking down" on my brother, to reach out to him. My dh and I have called and emailed my brother numerous times, but he refuses to talk me, and any attempt at communication seems to make him even angrier. What to do? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

issues with depression? he's probably clinically depressed. I'd encourage your parents to put therapy and perhaps meds as a contingency of his living with them. then once he's stabilized, put a contingency of searching for a new job. you can't do much from where you are - it's all on your parents now.
