i feel like a terrible person. living in ny has made me get so pretentious about things i am realizing. i am a prosecutor and soon to become a judge, my dh is a janitor. i am proud of him, he work hard and he is a wonderful husband and father, but whenever i am at work events i always find myself trying to make up some sort of an excuse when people ask what he does. i've always felt he has had a respectable career, but the more i move up in the ranks, the more i find myself trying to cover up his profession and i feel like scum for doing so. that happened with my parents - my dad was a garbageman and my mom was and still is a neurosurgeon, so you can imagine the mismatch going on with that couple - it worked out for them though, it is normal, just dont let it blind your love and always be honest with him [ Reply | More

My husband is a superintendent and I understand. I always say he's a building manager until people meet him. I know there is a negative stereotype that comes with those types of jobs. I think it's sad that other people judge you on your job when an honest days work is an honest days work. I hope your husband is in a union so you can collect a pension when he retires.
