ok then, but at some point you just have to jump and commit. i guess I would do it for a year and then decide. bronxville, but not beyond. also, only if the preschool were uptown [ Reply | More ]

op: our other option we are thinking about is to move to an entirely different city, we have a window of oppty now with our jobs that we likely won't have in a year, do we just eat the preschool money and move [ Reply | More ]

op: and by city, we mean a suburb of a differnt city, therefore not even having the preschool as an option [ Reply | More ]

There were families that commuted really far for our nursery school - some from Jersey, some from East Harlem - and I was always surprised by this, but I guess it worked for them [ Reply | More ]

NP: My family lives in Westchester and drives us home to 125th a lot. From Yonkers it's about 15/20min with no traffic. In the AM you bet there will be and I'm sure pre k is not in Harlem but down town from there. I would guess from Bronxville to the school would be 30min with no traffic double that in rush hr. Maybe longer. [ Reply | More ]

that is really nuts. it is just preschool. ridiculous to put little kids through a commute like that for circle time, snack time, ABC's and "socialization". [ Reply | More ]

NP: My family in AZ drives kids 1 hr to pre k. Just what you do out there. Of course out there it's at least an hr anywhere you go. Sure not so here but don't say it's ridiculous because people do it in other parts of the country! [ Reply | More ]

there is no traffic in AZ- big difference. I would not want to be sitting on the HH for an hour to go 12 miles. [ Reply | More ]

Crazy!!! I would never want to leave the city but if I did make a move it would be to make my life eaiser, not more difficult. Have you ever sat in rush hour traffic from the burbs at 8:00am. Plan on that 1/2 hour trip taking an 1 1/2 hours. Plus what is the point of moving if your dc will not meet other dc. All their friends will still be in the city and you will be very isolated there without some kind of connection to the community [ Reply | More ]

We moved 2 yrs ago for more space. LOVE that we have visitors right now and there isn't stuff all over the apartment. HATE HATE driving though. Biggest drawback for me. Also, we deliberately didn't buy a house near the train. Big mistake - if I could just walk to the train station, I'd be in the city a lot more than now. We're only a few miles, but it still means finding a spot etc. Also, the responsibilities when you have a house are enormous. There's just so much a super does that you just don't realize until you do it all. [ Reply | More ]
