bklyn moms: if you could choose, would you send dc to: a) K-12 private that you love that is in bklyn, b) a public K-5 that you also like a lot, that is in manhattan, c) a brand new private K-5 that has great potential (and costs 1/2 of other private schools) and is also in bklyn. note school a and c are still a commute from where we are in bklyn. (option d would be mediocre but decent public K-5 in our neighborhood). wwyd? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

^^ meant to add that option d would be no commute basically. all other options are a train or car ride away. [ Reply | More ]

That is not bad at all. Are you close to the subway stop? Public school is free, so I'm tempted to go with that one even if it is in Manhattan. Is it NEST or like school? If money is no issue, option a. [ Reply | More ]

pretty close to subway, but dreading commute into city every day twice (we work in bklyn, too). school is one of the EV progressive public schools. also i don't love the idea of dc in manhattan and we're across the river, if there were any emergency situation. but it is free, and we like the school. Then, I would choose the public in Manhattan and use a private van service (door to door) which is not cheap but you save on tuition so you can afford it. When your dc is old enough, he can take the subway himself. [ Reply | More ]

Definitely NOT d) unfortunately if it's not good. But it depends. If my dc were a very normal kid, I probably would but if dc needs more (accelerated or smarter peer group), that would affect my decision. [ Reply | More ]

it's an *ok* school, but teachers are kinda old and scary. the school itself is quite formal/rigid, compared w/ the other options, which i prefer b/c they are progressive. the lack of commute is so tempting, but i just don't love the school like i do the others. [ Reply | More ]

from op: if you could only choose between option b and c what would you do? (option a is maybe not possible b/c we are on wl...just wishful thinking, if we could choose between all options. i'm crossing fingers that we might hear some good news re: wl since g&t decisions made by today...but not counting on it.) If you actually say the names of the schools would be so much easier to compare. [ Reply | More ]
