You realize people say the same thing about Gen-Xers as some of you are now saying about Gen-Y. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Gen-Xers were accused of lacking focus and direction. We were never accused of being entitled, needing constant praise, or ignoring social/business mores in favor of our own codes of behavior. [ Reply | More ]

Every generation has lazy people (our hippie parents?). But as a group, we weren't labeled "lazy". Misguided, lacking focus, lacking discipline, etc. But never lazy. [ Reply | More ]

You're right. It was caled the slacker generation for years. The whole concept of "x" was nothing could stick to this generation when we were first being described b/c we 1) didn't want to go corporate america for 20 yrs after we graduated 2) would rather take odd jobs (Starbucks, anyone) until we found the right job 3) we wanted the anti-corporate, tech bubble, telecommute, casual Friday, team aproach world and generations before couldn't decide what to call it...therefore "slacker" and "x". I believe the Y generation sees the excesses and thinks they have to have biger and better now. They need designer labels, luxury vacation, club memberships etc. now and are willing to live in the hole for it. Some will be fine, but lots will get caught in the gap. [ Reply | More ]

truth be told, i think a lot of americans are going to get it. the old ways don't work in the new technologies and the new sense of entitlement will hit people very hard if we have an enormous recession. and let's not forget about the possibility of a massive technology shift as has happened in every generation prior. Computers. Internet. Etc etc. Things move even faster now. Silly to be too attached to anything. [ Reply | More ]
