I don't know enough to honestly say they are at this or that grade level in which subjects. I know my son was reading just shy of third grade level at the third quarter teacher's conference. (But he is, I think, inately a good reader.) More than anything the kids seem to be learning good school and social skills. [ Reply | More ]

nope. Live in Brooklyn. We tried to make it happen this year and couldn't get enough families involved. (The bus seems expensive when you are in the middle of the summer and totally excited about this new school.) [ Reply | More ]

How can he be a young 5 and go into first grade? Must be at least 5.5 yo now. Did ds go to academic preschool? Does he read yet? How much math can he do? I would definitely do some academic work over the summer if you have any concerns in that regard. [ Reply | More ]

OR above: Chess is pretty varied at NEST. There is a chess class every week and a club. Not too many of the K kids do the club so levels are pretty different. Math at NEST is Singapore Math. They are just finishing the second (yellow) workbook. I don't know how that translates to any other system. They do add/sub, no mult or div, lots of math logic stuff. [ Reply | More ]

don't worry. Even at Nest the kids are at all different levels. My dc is just finishing kindergarden and the kids in the class are at all diff levels. Some came into the class already writing in script and others came in barely know how to spell their name. Don't sweat it. [ Reply | More ]
