Would greatly appreciate advice on which strollers are best living in NYC. We walk a lot but may need to take taxis and trains occasionally. Thanks [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

IMO, the best for NYC is doing the Snap and Go while db is young and then switch to a lightweight, like Mac. [ Reply | More ]

There just isn't a perfect stroller. They are either heavy or have no storage. The Bug is good for walking around, the Maclarens are fine for getting around, don't take up lots of room in stores, can go on the bus, & make sense later when they are older. However, Maclarens have barely any storage and tip over when you put too much on the handles, aren't great in the snow, and some of them can't be used from teh get go. Also, at the beginning you can put the carseat on wheels and go around - it's ugly - since there is a basket underneath and you can get in a cab with the carseat/put the wheels in the trunk. You can also get a jogging stroller, but I've used mine twice, just not into it. [ Reply | More ]

np: any all terrain stroller plus a maclaren is a good combo. I have the BOB Revolution. Also like the Mountain Buggy Urban--and you can get a bassinet for that, great for a newborn. [ Reply | More ]

if you have the money to drop on both and have the storage, get both. I only use a maclaren as i don't have space for an extra stroller. And when you have the second kid, if they are close together, the bug is useless. [ Reply | More ]

I am the OR of this long post. You can get a Bug on Craiglist if you start your search early. FWIW, if you just want close to just one stroller, I have a Maclaren (I think it's a Quest). When I first had DD we had a small apartment. I borrowed my sisters carseat and used it on wheels, then switched to the Maclaren. I WOHM, so I am not sure if the Maclaren would be an issue in the snow - dd goes to daycare. [ Reply | More ]

We have an umbrella (Mac) and a Bertini Bidwell. The Bertini goes from Pram to a double decker. If you are planning on having a newborn and a toddler this is a nice option. [ Reply | More ]

If you are considering having another dc in the next couple of years consider getting one of the single to double convertible strollers. I had a Bug and folding Mac then had to sell them to get a double. [ Reply | More ]

We have the Bugaboo Bee, which we feel is a good combo - it's lighter and has an easy fold (though you do have to use 2 hands), but it's also sturdy and you can face the seat towards you if you want to. For the first few months though, we used the car seat & frame. Easiest & has the most storage room. [ Reply | More ]

here's something to consider, daycare/preschools/nursery schools want you to fold up that stroller if you leave it at their facility. it's considered a fire hazard to clutter up hallways. so if you want a bug, be committed to eventually also getting another stroller that folds. [ Reply | More ]

Maclaren Triumph comes close as the perfect city stroller. But not for newborns though. [ Reply | More ]

the new baby jogger citi-mini is great. one-hand fold and you can hold your baby while doing it. folds pretty small. feels sturdy (but not as sturdy as the bugaboo) and reclines almost 180 degrees so can use form birth. and goes up to 50 pounds. not great storage but comes with enough sun coverage and you can add an infant car seat adaptor. almost wish i never bought the bugaboo. one other drawback, to carry when folded requires your hand whereas you can put the maclaren over your shoulder. so for airports, would probably still use a maclaren.
