WWYD? 4.5 yo got a splinter in his thumb at the playground. Made a big fuss about it. I told him that we would go home, take the splinter out with tweezers and then have a popsicle and play in the wading pool. Ultimately he would not let me remove the splinter so I said no popsicle etc. Big fuss! How do you get a splinter out of a big kid who's fussing because it hurts? Of course it hurts, but that doesn't mean you don't have to do it. I'm so frustrated. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Can you get him to help you get it out? I'm sure he is scared of the pain. [ Reply | More ]

Maybe try to have someone else do it who he already trusts...Grandma, nanny, or neighbor? When we had splinters at the beach club, Grandma Bella was the designated splinter remover for all the kids, sometimes it's easier if it's not the parent...less fuss. Good luck! [ Reply | More ]

Soak in Epsom salts and in the bath. It will work its way out. Also, you can put Neosporin on it and cover with a bandage. I've been through this. It really will work its way out. [ Reply | More ]

I used to get away with it when my kid was asleep for the night. Let him have a part in the process and read a book while you put a really peroxide soaked cotton ball on it before he goes to sleep. The rest should be simple. I hope you have a pair of slant tip Tweezermans; they're the best and quickest-for splinters and eyebrows. [ Reply | More ]
