I think step-parents are worse than ILs. College friend is throwing me a baby shower in DC suburbs. Very small - less than a dozen people, including my sisters, mother, cousin and 8 yo niece. My stepmom (of 20 years btw) has told my dad that she is "uncomfortable" going with "all" my friends and that he needs to come with her. I'm not sure why she isn't uncomfortable bringing an uninvited man to a baby shower! I don't care one way or another if my dad shows up but I'd prefer my stepmom just not come instead of causing drama. Ugh! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

i can totally relate; my stepmom is same way - she and my father have been married for over 30 years and she acts like a child at situations like my wedding, etc. Just tell her she doesn't need to come if you can get away with it and that men are not invited. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, this is not a new issue - there were similar problems at my graduations, wedding etc. My sisters and I have just learned to deal with it but I have to admit that sometimes it just makes me so angry! [ Reply | More ]

i know - you always hope they can act like adults and never do. At my wedding my step-monster sat there and cried/sobbing so loud that she totally made a scene - always HAS to be about her. We're not even close - no reason for her to be crying - I don't even think my own mother cried. [ Reply | More ]

I had my husband, dad, and FIL come at the end of my shower to "make an appearance." If you want to do that, tell her she can come them with her husband. It will appease. She will also look ridiculous, but that's her choice [ Reply | More ]

That's not a bad option. My husband will be in town with me so could stop by with my dad. The whole thing is ridiculous though! [ Reply | More ]
