[-]4.5 yo DD is totally ready for K but they are going to put her into pre K because ofher age. I hate that she'll spend another whole year eating snack and doing finger paints. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

That's why we're doing public for a year and applying to private K from public K. [ Reply | More ]

But then she's going to be so frustrated in private k, no? Most of private K is socialization, at least according to a TT k teacher I know [ Reply | More ]

I really don't think a child can be bored in Kindergarten. It's not physics. We'll supplement at home if she is truly not feeling challenged but I highly doubt that will be the case. [ Reply | More ]

But then why not keep her in nursery? TO save the $$? [ Reply | More ]

1. Attached to an ongoing and they wouldn't have helped us apply out. 2. The $30K in "savings" from not doing Pre-K we can spend on a second year of K. [ Reply | More ]

Oh oh, but that doesn't really respond to OP's boredom concern. [ Reply | More ]

My original response did. A child isn't going to be bored in Pre-K unless the kid is doing advanced calculus. They're 4 1/2. The world is still interesting at this point. [ Reply | More ]

let her be a child for another year. Having snacks and doing finger paints is a lot of fun. [ Reply | More ]

My dd has been fighting with me about going to prek. She said she's bored and they don't teach anything new. She's been there for 2 yrs. I keep saying it's fun to paint, dress up and play with other friends but dd is tired of it and begs me to send her to a big school. If I were you, I'd send dc to Kindergarten (public) and apply to private next year if you want. But my dd keeps complaining about how everything is for babies at her school. [ Reply | More ]
