One more try (with updated info) NYC mom's .... We are in the throws of a nanny search. How much do you pay your part-time nannies a week. We are looking to hire someone between 7:30-5:30 two days a week. Someone said $15 /hr is low end. $300 weekly seems high for 2 days, no??? Do you pay hourly or salary?? Also do you give paid vacation on part-time??? We have a 12 month old [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I answered you below. You are looking for someone to work 20 hours/week which is half of a 40 hour work week. $600/week is not high. The word is "throes," by the way, and it implies something pretty heavy-duty: http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=throes [ Reply | More ]

$15/hour in NYC is pretty standard. I know of people that pay less ($12/hour), but for a 50 hour work week. [ Reply | More ]

Going rate is $10 to $15 an hour even for part time. usually nannies who get paid $15 are those who have been with that family for more than 3 years [ Reply | More ]

gotcha - so I could probably do 130 a day and then move upward - $13 hr. We really like the woman. Then I am off for break at christmas (2 weeks) and march (2 weeks) so thinking of giving her all that vacation. Then off 1 month in summer and thinking of giving her that time in exchange for 6 nights childcare??? make sense?? So you will get 4 weeks vacation (8 days) and then 8 days off in summer for 6 nights at another time?>> [ Reply | More ]

we pay our 15-hour-a-week nanny a total of $250 week salary, which works out to $16.66/hour -- one child, 7 years old. it's basically a pick up from the bus stop and make sure she starts her homework/take her to any afterschool activity sort of job. [ Reply | More ]

^^^^btw, sitter gets all the sick days she needs, and gets paid for 52 weeks a year -- it's a salary job, not an hourly job. sometimes she comes early and stays later; other times she leaves early. it all works out in the end. she gets a year-end bonus too. all this said, we know her for many years, though she didn't sit for us all the time we've known her. it's a very personal relationship and there's a lot of trust there.
