I am going to need to have my nanny come in 45 minutes earlier in the morning than she does now when kindergarten starts in the fall. How much should I increase her salary, just add 3/4 of her hourly rate? Or should I give her an early morning bonus as well? Anyone BTDT? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

wow. you are me. we are thinking of doing the exact same thing (45 min early in the morning to make it to K on time). We are increasing $50 per week because of that and because it will be a new year/new contract/time for a raise. [ Reply | More ]

Sounds reasonable. Thanks. [ Reply | More ]

A $50 "raise" when you're having her work 4 more hours a week doesn't sound like much of a raise to me. Sounds like more hours at her old rate of pay. [ Reply | More ]

but it's not really a raise... I'm going to assume that the nanny makes $15, so it is just paying her for her hours... [ Reply | More ]

but this is also a modest raise accompanied by a huge reduction in responsibilities -- as at least one of her charges will now be out of the house 6.5 hours per day [ Reply | More ]

Will she be working more hours? Will she be taking care of younger children while this child is at school? [ Reply | More ]

She will come earlier and leave at the same time. She will be taking care of a toddler who is not in preschool yet. Obviously, I will pay her more, I was just wondering if the early morning would justify an additional hardship type payment. [ Reply | More ]

Yep, you should raise at least $75 I think. How early do you need her? Does she live far away? [ Reply | More ]

7:30; Brooklyn to UWS. I think her commute is about an hour. [ Reply | More ]

I think it depends on how early her start time was to begin with. Our nanny comes at 9am, so if I wanted her to start coming at 8, I would not think that is so early as to be a "hardship". OTOH, my friend's nanny arrives at 7am, so I might feel differntly about asking for 6am. I also think it depends on total hours. If her workweek is going over the 50-55 hours, then I think the extra hours maybe need to be more like OT. [ Reply | More ]
