I'm reading all this business about gender ratios in gifted and talented programs and I find it interesting. I have a 2 1/2yo dd that we'll have tested to see if we can get her into a better school. I hope that they look only at aptitude and not other factors like gender and race. While I'm all for diversity, there's not enough slots in this city. The space that they do have should go to the best kids, period. I imagine if I had sons, I'd feel differently but the fact of the matter is that girls are rising and boys are struggling. I think it's directly related to that fact that women are rising and men are struggling. Most of my female friends outearn their husbands. Welcome to the new world order. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Actually it is about brain development. Girls are ahead of boys at that early age but the discrepancy goes away within a few years. Not recognizing this would be like saying you shouldn't norm the test for age. "My kid was born in January... screw the December kids." [ Reply | More

You will hate it when the queen bee mean girl thing takes over the classroom in first grade. If I wanted SS education I'd send DD to SS school. Besides, by second grade the boys totally catch up. [ Reply | More
