Friend's DS in another city has had trouble in math this year. Told by school he needs summer school to work on it, but they are leaving the country for summer to visit family (unavoidable). Can anyone recommend good computer programs to help 2nd grade boy get up to snuff?? TIA! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

she should ask the school, so that whatever program is used complements what he's learning [ Reply | More ]

That gets complicated. He just needs help with basics I think -- it's actually my friend's housekeeper's son and she's had trouble communicating with school all year. Friend wants to tutor boy before he and his mom leave country. [ Reply | More ]

Maybe find out where he's lacking (reading? math?) and then buy a few of those grade-specific books by Kumon or whatever. [ Reply | More ]

It may be that he need drilling in math facts (a big problem at this age and will prevent him from moving on). I second the idea of getting a few math workbooks (summerbridge for 2nd to 3rd grade) or a 2nd grade workbook and working through pages as much as possible. The boy should then have homework ...ie quiet work time for 15 minutes per day in the work books. [ Reply | More ]
