only expecting, so new to all this school craziness. here is my question: is it possible to circumvent the competition if you just have boatloads of $ & send dc to private or are they as hard to get a spot in? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Hard to get spot in too, unless you are mega-wealthy with mega-connections. [ Reply | More ]

if you have container vessels full of cash, or if you just have boatloads and are in a creative field, or if you are famous, you're in. otherwise, you're pretty much screwed. [ Reply | More ]

Nonsense. The richest family in our preschool was shut out and plenty of normal families (including mine) did fine. It's about the child. [ Reply | More ]

I didn't want to go through all the school craziness either. My husband and I knew we wanted a private Christian school that was very strong academically. We searched on the internet and prayed about our decision. With little searching we found the perfect school. It wasn't a hassle to get in and the kids and teachers are great. No waiting list, no crazy deadlines, just relaxed and normal like getting into preschool should be. They assessed our daughter to see if she was ready for there program and excepted her. We called the school in Feb and went through the process in a couple weeks. She'll start in Sept. We thank God for making this easy. [ Reply | More ]

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you don't live in NYC. [ Reply | More ]

I think if you have enough money and are willing to accept a spot in ANY private, you are fine. But you will still need to go on a ton of interviews/school visits. [ Reply | More ]

What about families moving to Manhattan from other cities ? I know a few families who left here (Atlanta) and the next semester their children were in good NY schools... How does that happen ? [ Reply | More ]

Seriously, this happened at my job - someone moved from another city and got UB tt schools (they are a bit connected, but still). Maybe the best approach is to appeal to parents league in April and pretend you are moving from somewhere else. [ Reply | More ]
