Is it true that NEST publishes the amounts that parents donate to the "NEST egg"? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Nope. Only private schools and preschools do that. [ Reply | More ]

well, more than one person has just posted that NEST does it, so apparently, that is not completely true. [ Reply | More ]

They haven't, but as their fundraising has to step up to fill in what the BoE won't, they will have to become more professional. People who give a lot of money usually like to be visibly recognized. So, if you want big donors, you have to have mechanisms to recognize them. [ Reply | More ]

No it cannot be done. I am doing fundraising for our school and there are guidelines for this. [ Reply | More ]

Sorry, but that's not true at dc's public school at all. But it is true at a friend's private school. I think you just have different kinds of people at public and private schools - different motivations. [ Reply | More ]

np: Private schools publish what each family donates? [ Reply | More ]

nnp. Ours lists which families donated, but they do it in broad categories. So if you gave anything from $1 to $1,500 your name gets listed under that category. From $1,501 to $5,000 gets you listed in another category, and so on. [ Reply | More ]

Correct, the old principal was running things private-school style. They were leaning on parents for money much harder than they do now and were raising much more per family. [ Reply | More ]

NEST Parent: we should distinguish here between the PTA and the other fundraising entity. There is another group, which does corporate type fundraising, at NEST. I think that is called "NEST egg." (Don't quote me.) "NEST egg" (if that is the corp arms name) used to do all the fundraising but PTA got its own 501c3 and now does the family centered/oriented part. The PTA this year has not identified how much each family gave. [ Reply | More ]

For all of you who live in Brooklyn who have kids accepted to Nest please join the BrooklynNesters Yahoo Group. We are a group of Nest parents from Brooklyn who came together last year to form this group. Through this yahoo group many people have arranged carpooling and trainpools. In addition, a private bus is being put together for those of you who are interested. brooklynnesters@yahoogroups.com [ Reply | More ]
