The DOE has insisted they don't need wait lists because they can forecast demand and overbook classes knowing some families will decline. If they get it wrong, there could be more kids than available seats. [ Reply | More

I think the people should sue the doe, or open another class at that school to accomodate these poor dcs. we have told our dd that she is going to the school, and it would be bad for a number of reasons not to have a spot now. perhaps the poster should get a lawyer now. [ Reply | More

People have been refused registration at East Village Community School, and one of the Upper East Side elementaries, after getting letters from the DOE assigning them there. This isn't g&t, just gen ed, but it's scary. I feel lucky that when we went to our DOE-assigned school, they had us on the list. [ Reply | More

EVCS is in district 1, which is unzoned and all schools are assigned through application/lottery through DOE. The UES one is for the area that has no zoned school (it was closed) so the DOE assigned those residents to other area schools. [ Reply | More

Exactly, I gave up a spot at one lottery school to register at another. I would be at a lawyer immediately if the one I chose, said no when I showed up to register. Fortunately their roster matched my letter. [ Reply | More
