We left a deposit at one of the private ongoing schools but also applied for the G&T and the District lottery since we have no public school. If we had any decent options there was a good chance we were going to stick to public. Am I glad we applied to private. We were given four options to rank for the lottery. We received our last choice, a school our PSD said she would not send her kids to. Since the "sibling policy" was put into effect, we could not be placed at our local G&T. Our G&T options: over 60 blocks south, completely across the other side of Manhattan and 40 blocks south or in Chinatown. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

^^^ Unfortunately maybe this is a sign for us to run as far away as possible from public school and the DOE. We could move but none of these areas are places we would consider living. [ Reply | More ]

Why did you list that school among your options? You should have stuck with the ones you wanted. [ Reply | More ]

Yes. Great school but the tuition will strain us. [ Reply | More ]

Ouch. On one level, I understand the need for a sibling policy, but at the same time, only DCs and oldest DCs get the short end of the stick. I really worry that this will happen to us next year. [ Reply | More ]

Exactly. Because of the sibling policy, I can't go to the G&T three blocks away. I have to go 60 - 100 blocks away. In order to help one group, you totally screw another. [ Reply | More ]

I'm guessing that you got PS198? If so it's perfectly fine for K, and you can reapply for G&T next year. [ Reply | More ]

The only schools in D2 with available G&T spots for 1st grade were ps124 and ps111 (each added a 1st grade G&T class). Not sure why you are so surprised. Consider yourself very lucky that you have a TT private spot. dc with fall birthday also took olsat for 1st this year and those would have been our options, too, had we returned the form. happily going private. There were about 7 options offered to us, not just those 2. Some had limited seating. [ Reply | More ]
