Pg, and due 9/14. Need a c-section. OB wants to schedule the week of 9/8, and not before (39 weeks). DS starts nursery school Monday 9/8. When would you schedule the c-section? Wednesday? Thurs? Obviously, I could go into labor at any time, but if I can make this easier on DS, I want to [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I would schedule for the Wednesday. Have someone stay with you (your mom, MIL) if possible from day before c-sxn for hopefully until you get out of hospital, then have dh stay home the week after you are out of hospital (if possible). [ Reply | More ]

op - he won't miss any school. We are in the burbs, school is 9-1 and we live less than 1 min away. DH will be home for 2 weeks, and my parents live nearby. DH will do drop off, then come to the hospital, my Mom will pick him up and bring him to see me/baby, then home w/ Daddy for the afternoon. I think Wed if I can get it [ Reply | More ]

Will the delivery be with a different OB, depending on day of the week? I am also scheduling right at about 39 weeks (apparently hospitals are getting much more strict about no scheduled deliveries before 39 weeks -- that's what my OB told me) and specifically picking a day that my fave OB will be on for deliveries. Generally better staffing at the hospital during the week than on weekends, so keep that in mind. [ Reply | More ]

No scheduled deliveries before 39 weeks because sometimes the due date is miscalculated and the baby comes out too early, with lung maturity issues, etc. [ Reply | More ]

Having BTDT - your older one will be fine whatever you do. You can't really predict how he will react, and going to preschool might be a great distraction from worrying about you being in the hospital. Do what's right for you and the baby and try to make sure others (grandparents, DH, aunts/uncles) make a fuss over the older child while you're in the hospital. [ Reply | More ]
