Citywide is not a specific school. It is a classification of schools. It means that anyone in NYC can attend (assuming they meet eligibility criteria/pass test/etc.) Anderson is one of these schools. There are only three citywides which have kindergarten programs- Anderson, NEST and TAG. They are all in Manhattan. [ Reply | More ]

thank you very much. are those schools considered better than the average public school or is it mostly an attraction for kids in districts with bad public schools? [ Reply | More ]

Anderson has the best reputation of the three, by far. I don't know much about TAG. Better than average, Yes. There are those who would argue that some of the really good local (zoned) schools are better than TAG or NEST(?). NEST has a checkered past and, IMHO, suffers for it. The self selection thing means a lot too. Every kid there has involved parent(s). [ Reply | More ]

i think that's a big reason people choose gifted and talented programs. it's as close as a public school can come to the self selection of a private school. [ Reply | More ]

OR: that was it for us. Would have stayed local for elementary but our zoned school sucks. [ Reply | More ]
