Work vent: I negotiated a part time schedule. Its been great. Now I have a new a-hole team leader who keeps scheduling events on my off day or after I'm supposed to leave for the day. I've accomodated some of the requests, but now I have to put my foot down. i just scheduled a meeting with him. I feel like it's a total power struggle, like he thinks I'm gettin away with something by working part ime. UGG [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

maybe he's not cognizant of your hours from week to week. if they are consistant, maybe you could email him your sched for the month and ask him to try to sched meetings pertinent to you during the times that you are in. after that, if he persists, i agree he is being a jerk. can you speak with a superior if all else fails? good luck, i hate coworkers who sabotage [ Reply | More ]

oh, he knows. I work a standard schedule, just 20hrs instead of 40. I sent an email off to our joint supervisor, and she's going to talk to him. I've been on this schedule for 4 years, its not news, he's just an angry short man looking to rule the world. thanks for responding. [ Reply | More ]

is he doing it to F* with you, to accomodate somebody else, or is he just insensitive? [ Reply | More ]

I don't understand why he's got such a stick up his butt, it's not like you're getting paid for full time work. [ Reply | More ]

Some people have really weird responses to parttimers. I work for a consulting firm, they have very family friendly policies, but there is a whiff of slacking to some people if you actually take advantage of the options [ Reply | More ]

I work with several part timers. Sometimes it works out great, other times it sucks. One of the part timers will routinely schedule the shitty stuff for her off days. She also thinks since she is half time she should never have to work more than 20 hours. But the FTEs work 50-60 hours on a regular basis. Part time takes awareness on both sides. [ Reply | More ]

Very true. I made my scheduling needs very clear 4 years ago--I'm happy to work from home when needed, or rearrange my childcare when I can, but I took the pay/hour cut for a reason. [ Reply | More ]

I think a lot of times too, the institution (HR and senior management) understand the relationship BUT the peers/subordinates don't. [ Reply | More ]

I think it's a combo or insensitive and f'ing with me. I've been with the company longer than he has, and am well regarded--I think it pisses him off that people will come to me for help before him even though I'm "ony" part time. I think he also resents that I could have his job if I wanted to be full time again. [ Reply | More ]
