Ok, NYC moms. I know you're out there. Just moved back to NY with a child and have been to the park only to be met with a sea of spaced out nannies. Anyone with their child during the day that would like to go for a walk, coffee, the park? I'm on ues. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

The park near me is mostly nannies, but I wouldn't describe them as spaced out. I have found it hard to make new "mommy friends". I hear it gets easier once dc are in school (nursery or otherwise). [ Reply | More ]

You're right, it's unfair to say all the nannies are spaced out. I do see some that are very engaged and active with the child. And I have a sitter who is absolutely wonderful. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, very lonely. And I'm definitely an extrovert, so especially hard. I do have a few friends here, but sometimes hard to coordinate baby schedules, you know? [ Reply | More ]

believe me i know. with activities, naps and daily life in general it can be tough. i love being home with my children but this is my biggest complaint about this job. i think it is especially hard here in ny because there seem to be more nannies than sahms. [ Reply | More ]

How about a class at the 92 Y? I've found sahm friends at classes, not at playgrounds. Good luck! I'm way downtown, so we won't meet. But you can find folks. [ Reply | More ]

Try different parks until you find one with a vibe you like. [ Reply | More ]

Have you tried St. Catherine's Park on 68th & 1st or John Jay on 77th by the East River. Another option is Carl Schurz park - a lot of nannies but also some parents from what I have seen on rare occasions I'm there with my son (only because I'm a dh) and don't get there to often during the week. You might also want to check out Big City Moms or Divalysscious Moms (I think I spelt it right) or a program like Hands on Music [ Reply | More ]

Any luck? I've heard of new mom clubs meeting up at certain parks at certain times depending on the age of your child. I'm a new mom on the UES (dc is 1 mth) and I've been having a hard time connecting with other moms. None of my friends have children. I'm thinking of signing up for a couple classes at kidville, but that won't start until the fall. [ Reply | More ]
