Wondering if a private accept got a G&T spot and will give it up. In turn a Hunter accept my get the private spot and then my dc (99 OLSAT, but only ranked A,N,PS 9 and no luck) will get in off the Hunter w/l. Or, did any Hunter accept get into A and drop out of Hunter? All longshots I know. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

op: No real options. Homeschooling for a year then reapply or pack it in and move out of city (can;t afford to move within city to a good school- rent is way cheap). Thanks. [ Reply | More ]

yikes. I would have at least put ps166. so much better than you think, and certainly beats sitting home with mom for a year hoping to get in off the hunter w/l. [ Reply | More ]

ITA- or at least put TAG down as a choice?? Our DC scored 99 too. We ranked A, then PS 9 then PS166 (loved NEST but commute too much w/ another baby on the way). We got 166. This year was tough. LOTS of 99's and not enough spots. [ Reply | More ]

I think some of the 99s (especially the Hunter w/l ones) felt too cocky and sure of themselves as having gifted kids who needed only citywide or the best district program. well, sorry to say, its a big city out there, and many smart kids. [ Reply | More ]

ITA- TAG poster from above. It was a tough year and that PS 9 only has one G&T K class, so now it turns out that PS 166 has ALOT of 99's and 98's. [ Reply | More ]

op: I am not "too cocky". I did not rank any other schools because we would not have taken them if offered. Being the there are no w/l this year, we did not want to be offered a spot, decline it and take that offer away from someone who would have taken advantage of it. [ Reply | More ]

I see your point but you also should have covered your bases by listing TAG or 166 or 163. At least you would have a spot and could always try for A, N or PS9 next year. [ Reply | More ]

I am a big believer in the squeaky wheel thing. You won't have a shot at A or 9, but if you're persistent, I really wouldn't be surprised if they toss you a NEST opening late August [ Reply | More ]

I don't believe them. There are going to be spaces and they'll need to be filled, and no one will know how they really fill them. Squeaky wheel, I tell you [ Reply | More ]

Well, we were pretty squeaky this year, but always in a nice way (without going into details) and things worked out well for us. [ Reply | More ]

GL. Decide on a specific contact person (Nicky, Grace, etc) and check in regularly over the summer by phone. [ Reply | More ]

From what I saw in an earlier post, if you didn't get any placement, they will try to work with you where they have openings, but I think it's likely to be a G&T at a less popular program, not one of the most popular. They will fit your dc in where they have openings, but still much better than staying at home for a year. What can it hurt to try? [ Reply | More ]
