So dd is almost too big for infant carseat - how do NY families get around the city if, say, you take the subway somewhere in a stroller, but want to take a taxi home? Assuming you're not lugging around a car seat. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I avoid taxis (except in rare instances) until dc is old enough for a booster. It's not very practical but I can't see lugging around a carseat or sit-n-stroll. We do take the bus. [ Reply | More ]

You just hold the kid while you're in the taxi. I've done it many times [ Reply | More ]

I don't bother with car seats in general. They are too much of a pain in the butt! [ Reply | More ]

didn't take taxis with dc till 3yo. before that -- walked, took the bus or subway, or drove our car. [ Reply | More ]

we don't have a car, live on the other side of manhattan from our families, and find ourselves too pooped at the end of a visit to get on a subway... [ Reply | More ]

the bus is a lot easier than the subway with young DCs, and a lot easier to get cross-town on a bus anyway. [ Reply | More ]

You can try a sit-n-stroll, but they're pretty lousy as strollers and bulky for the subway or bus. [ Reply | More ]

taxis are exempt from the carseat law so you don't have to lug a carseat around. but if you really want to you can. [ Reply | More ]

Honestly, I limited taxi use as much as possible until DS was closer to 2yo and we took busses and subways as often as possible. But I WAS willing to put DS in a taxi without a car seat. My only rule, is no highway. So essentally, if we had to leave Manhattan in a taxi, we would bring the car seat - but that was pretty rare. [ Reply | More ]
