DD is 7 and going into 2nd grade. My former parenting strategies, great for preschoolers, aren't cutting it. Any suggestions on books on this developmental stage? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

my dd is 8yr old. I'm stern with her when she doesn't listen..but we do a lot of talks. She may not want to but I make her sit with me and we discuss why I'm not happy with whatever she's doing that is not right. I also do take away her Nintendo DS if she really doesn't listen or will cancel playdates. I don't play with her. If she is respectful, does what she is supposed to do, life is easy. If she is being mean, nasty or disrespectful, I call her on it asap and if a talk doesn't help then I take action. That usually works. GL [ Reply | More
