What should be my response to 4yo's new antics at the table. Feet up on table, turning around, random screaming, banging fork on table. What is going on? And this isn't helped by 2yo brother who laughs and copycats. Anyone btdt? Do I just wait it out and ignore what I can and give polite reminders? Or do I go straight to timeouts/having to leave the table early? It seems the more strict I am the worse it gets, but I feel strange just ignoring or repeating reminders constantly during the meal. I have my 5 yo leave the table when he starts with that stuff. Seems to work okay, but really I don't think he'll actually be cured of the problem until he matures. [ Reply | More ]

At that age, I had my older DD generate a list of "good table manners." I wrote it down, she illustrated it, and taped it up by the table. It stayed up for years, and all I had to do was point to it to remind her of the desired behaviors. [ Reply | More ]

OP: I like it too, but I know my 4 yo would start laughing if I pointed to the list. He's started this horrible laughing thing...ugh. [ Reply | More ]
