I spoke with a lot of people today, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that at least 15 of the 25 (plus overflow) ps 9 G&T Kindergarteners were at Hunter round 2 and FC'd Anderson. ALL of the new Kindergarteners got a 99 on the OLSAT except possibly for the few siblings admitted (but they could have gotten anything from 90 to 100). It's going to be a power-house group this year. And yes, my kid is one of them! And yes, my kid is a sib...and no, I won't share my kid's score. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

ITA. Ignore these posters, OP. I know how it feels to have a kid with amazing scores get s/o of Anderson and Hunter. [ Reply | More ]

My DC also got s/o of Hunter and Anderson this year and I certainly wouldn't dream of asking the parents of his new schoolmates what their kids' ERB scores were. [ Reply | More ]

Did you spend all day personally speaking with the parents of more than 14 other kids admitted to ps 9 G&T today and asking them, "so did your little genius go to Round 2 also?" I doubt anyone in DOE would have this info. [ Reply | More ]

OMG can you read? people like to talk about this kind of thing. Especially parents of extremely bright kids who tested well that were counting on first Hunter, then Anderson and now trying to wrap their heads around the G&T offer. People like to talk when they are making decisions. Chill out. [ Reply | More ]

assuming anderson, since most had high scores in order to get in in the first place, and some people have shared their experiences going through round 2 at hunter [ Reply | More ]

people are happyy that their kids got into a good G&T, and that the peers are likely gifted. it is also good to have a gen ed filled with high scoring smart kids. means the overall level of the school will be high, parents committed, etc. Nothing to pity anyone about. It all makes for a strong school. [ Reply | More ]

Not necessarily "smart". Depending on the older's age, it could have been living in the catchment which placed the dc there. [ Reply | More ]

This is exactly why dc is going gen ed. People, one test score--or even two--does not make your FOUR YEAR OLD miraculous. Lots of total failures out there with very high IQs. Putting this kind of expectation and pressure on small kids is absolutely horrible. Believe me, that's how I grew up, and it sucks. GET OVER YOURSELVES ALREADY. [ Reply | More ]

I think it's creepy that PS 9 has a parent with access to all the new parents making appointments and asking questions that I'd find an invasion of my privacy. I wonder if the principal knows she did all this "investigation" just so she could brag on UB. I'd be concerned about the integrity of keeping my child's files from other parents' eyes. Yuck. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.18.08, 06:23 PM Flag

She did not make any investigation. If anything, all she did was to call families to tell them about registration and orientation. But I sort of doubt she did even that. Diane Brady said at PTA meeting two days ago she still did not have the info to inform the new families. [ Reply | More ]
