20-something sister is moving into her own apartment (no more roommates) and needs flatware. Is Ikea decent or should she "splurge" on Crate and Barrel or something along those lines? She has a dishwasher. Doesn't make a ton of $, but is single and feels like it might be a while before she's registering for housewares! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

our everyday stuff is from C&B, good quality. or check macy's, they have sales all the time, she can get reed & barton or similar for cheap. Marshalls or TJ Maxx has nice sets sometimes too [ Reply | More ]

ITA - especially about Macy's and Marshalls. Make sure it's 18/10 stainless steel. I bet Ikea sets are 18/8 (quality not as good) [ Reply | More ]

Macy's is a good idea. What are the decent brands to look for? (I don't even know what I have -- clearly we're not a family known for our housekeeping skills!) [ Reply | More ]

I would go to marshall's, tjmaxx, target, etc... Ikea flatware is pretty crappy, but she certainly doesn't need to spend for nicer stuff. [ Reply | More ]

cb2 is another option, a lower-priced off-shoot of crate & barrel. [ Reply | More ]
