What do you all think about giving priority to zoned kids for district G&T spots? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I don't like it, but I wish they'd do away with the districts entirely. [ Reply | More ]

This will cause an even wider disparity between desirable district G&Ts and the others. At least now, the "smartest" kids in the district who don't get into citywides remain in their districts. [ Reply | More ]

ITD. Keeping the system as it is perpetuates the disparities. If UMC dc from D2 were just as likely to get a spot at PS 19 G&T as at PS 116 G&T, and vice versa, it would help to reduce disparities. [ Reply | More ]

Not sure I follow. What I meant was, if all the qualifying kids end up in the most desirable schools, these schools will continue to thrive whereas schools that would otherwise have received these kids will lose out. The disparity between schools will increase. [ Reply | More ]

A lot of "smartest" kids will be staying in their zones. Don't assume because you chose a city-wide that other parents with 99s won't keep their children in their zoned school. [ Reply | More ]

Unless their zoned school is of some standard, I doubt many of these 99s will keep their child in their zoned Gen Ed. [ Reply | More ]

I'll be keeping my 99 at 321 in Brooklyn over NEST. [ Reply | More ]

np - That's how D3 worked. So a dc with a 90 on the SB but who lived in PS 9's catchment got preference over a dc who scored a 99.99 on the SB but lived out of zone. It got abolished when the DOE took over the G&T process. [ Reply | More ]

So they've replaced it w/sibling preference, but now potentially spending much more on busing. [ Reply | More ]
