Do you know of anyone whose dc got into private K after the initial waitlist period? Was it a school they originally applied to or a new school that they applied to later? Anticipating a shutout next year (OT and speech issues), and trying to come up with a stragegy. tia. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Wouldn't the strategy then be public? [ Reply | More ]

that would be the fallback of course, but dc would definitely benefit from a small nuturing private. I'm trying to determine if there is a sort of "round 2" application process where some kids who are initially shutout then get a school before the fall. [ Reply | More ]

you should start out by applying realistically. If your child still gets therapy and needs a small, nurturing environment, apply to BWL, Town, Trevor, City and Country, Little Red, manhattan country school, Cathedral, SHSH, Alexander Robinson, if a girl, marymount, if a boy browning. C&C and little Red are very good for a dc in need of a lot of structure. [ Reply | More ]

applied after the initial time frame. Strategy ideas: tutor for the erbs (I'm serious, ask around), apply widely and don't belive what you read on UB, talk to anhyone you know with kids in private school about schools and processes and recomendations, start a dialogue with your psd so that you are on the same page with reagard to applications, if yo think dc will make maturity improvements, visit schools as late as possible (and don't take the erb/ecaa before end of October) [ Reply | More ]

The only one was a shutout and PSD pushed hard. This was a couple of years ago. Otherwise, the only ones I know who got in are going to British Int'l School, Mandell and Claremont. [ Reply | More ]

If you apply strategically, he shouldn't be shut out. I like the list above (though Town has gotten pretty competitive). And pick one or two of those to focus your energies on, and use any connections you have. Schools like BWL or Trevor really want families who want them. [ Reply | More ]

Not sure why SHSH and Cathedral are on the list since those are pretty conventional, competitive schools, and as far as I know SHSH fills up the class in preK, making k admissions very difficult. [ Reply | More ]
